Senior TMC leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all party posts. After being removed from the post of Chief Whip, he criticized I-PAC and corruption. There is speculation that he will join BJP after getting ‘Y’ category security.
Kolkata: Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, one of the most trusted leaders of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, has resigned from all party posts. This dramatic development happened just as he was removed from the post of TMC Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha and Kalyan Banerjee was appointed. Kakoli has also left the post of Trinamool’s Barasat organizational district president and women’s wing president. There are also reports that she may resign from the post of MP also.
Kakoli Ghosh had recently sharply criticized I-PAC, the political consultancy firm that prepares the party’s election strategy. She said that she is resigning taking moral responsibility for the party’s poor performance on Barasat seat. He also said that Mamata Banerjee should rely on her loyal workers instead of relying on external agencies. He openly said, “It cannot be tolerated that people like us with 40-45 years of political experience are threatened by 22-23 year old boys and girls from a consultancy firm.”
In his resignation, Kakoli has also mentioned the poor law and order situation in the state and the widespread corruption in the government. Her son Baidyanath Ghosh said that the reputation of his family was being affected by the many allegations of corruption against the Bengal government, hence his mother took this step. He further said that job scam, ration scam and R.G. The Kar Medical College incident has caused great damage to the party’s image. His mother remained silent for so long because of her personal relations with Mamta.
Kakoli Ghosh, who has been with Mamata Banerjee since 1976, recently wrote on social media that she has received this ‘reward’ for four decades of loyalty. Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has given ‘Y Category’ security to Kakoli, intensifying political speculations about his joining BJP in Bengal. However, his family says that Kakoli’s move is against corruption and not about joining BJP.
