Story of Kuber Dev: In Hindu religion, Kuber is considered the god of wealth. Worship of Kuber Dev on the day of Dhanteras is considered especially fruitful. It is believed that worshiping Lord Kuber on this day removes financial problems from a person’s life. According to mythological beliefs, Kuber is the half brother of Lankapati Ravana. Kuber is also identified as the king of Yakshas. He is the Dikpal of the North and is also considered the Lokpal.

According to the story described in Skanda Purana….
According to a mythological story described in Skanda Purana, Lord Kuber was born in a Brahmin family in his previous birth. His name was Gunanidhi. Gunanidhi had one demerit. He used to steal. When her father came to know about this, he threw Gunanidhi out of the house. Then while wandering Gunanidhi saw a Shiva temple and planned to steal the prasad there.
A priest was resting in that Shiva temple. To escape from the priest, Gunanidhi spread her towel in front of the lamp, but the priest caught her stealing and in the scuffle, Gunanidhi died. After death, when the messengers of Yama were bringing Gunanidhi, the messengers of Mahadev were also coming behind them. The messengers of Lord Shiva brought Gunanidhi in front of Bholenath.
Lord Shiva gave the title of Kuber
Bholenath felt that Gunanidhi had saved the lamp burning for him from getting extinguished by spreading the towel. Mahadev became pleased with this and gave Gunanidhi the title of Kuber. At the same time, Mahadev also made Kuber Dev the treasurer of the wealth of the gods.
