Ahoi Ashtami (Ahoi Eighth), falling four days after Karva Chauth, is one of the special festivals of North India. On this day mothers fast for their children. Along with this, some women observe this fast along with the birth of their child. This festival, a symbol of maternal love, is celebrated every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month (month of Hindi calendar). On this day, mothers fast from morning till evening without food and water and in the evening the fast is broken by worshiping Ahoi Mata under the shade of stars. Semolina Halwa and Puri
There is a tradition of making semolina halwa and puri on the day of Ahoi Ashtami. Making it is also not very time consuming. Fry the semolina in desi ghee while stirring continuously till it turns golden brown and then pour water in another pan and add sugar in it. When the water boils, add roasted semolina and desi ghee to it. After covering it and cooking it, add almonds, cashew nuts fried in desi ghee and also add cardamom powder.

Flour dumplings or puas are also made on Ahoi Ashtami. To make this, the flour is kneaded in jaggery water and then it is left to ferment for a few hours. After this, make small dumplings and fry them in hot oil.

Sweets made from milk are also offered on Ahoi Ashtami. You can make coconut barfi on this day. Apart from this, you can make Malai Laddu or the simplest way is to make Kheer. Traditionally, mostly rice kheer is made here, but you can also make makhana kheer for enjoyment which does not take much time to prepare.

Like Karva Chauth, in many homes, Kadhi rice is also offered on the day of Ahoi Ashtami. People make Kadhi in many different ways, like some people make Kadhi by directly frying it while some add tempering after cooking the Kadhi. You can prepare it in your own way.
