Updated Maruti Suzuki Fronx Spied Ahead of Launch With New Safety Features

The latest reports from India indicate that    is testing an improved version of the Fronx, with this prototype showing possible modifications in terms of its braking system as well as safety features. The camouflaged test mule is believed to be equipped with rear disc brakes and the components that can help ADAS technology in the future.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Expected Launch

Maruti Suzuki Fronx’s current generation comes with a cost that lies between Rs. 6.9 lakhs to Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). Some of its variants include Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha with manual, AMT, turbo-automatic and CNG transmission choices. Facelift is likely to be launched at a price close to the above-mentioned cost. Though due to some additional features, it might get slightly expensive.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Expected Updates

The test car looks like it will have the same Fronx design as the current one, with the same profile, the same lighting system in two halves and a slanted roofline. It seems the same with narrow upper light bars and headlamps mounted low on the car. However, there might be a redesign of the grille and bumpers for the front and rear sections of the car. One of the upgrades found in the prototype car was the presence of rear disc brakes. Currently, the India-spec Fronx has disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes at the back wheels irrespective of the variant. Rear disc brakes, therefore, will be a massive improvement on the braking system of the car.

Another indication of upgrades in the test car was the presence of a radar module at the bottom of the Suzuki badge. This might mean that the car will come with ADAS technology. Such technologies as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and automatic high-beam assist among others are expected. These are available on the recently facelifted Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Cabin, Engine

Nothing much has been heard from Maruti Suzuki regarding the interior of the new Fronx. But, the facelift of Baleno may give some hints regarding what could come up inside the SUV. These could be ventilated seats, wireless charging facility with a cooler, better upholstery and audio system.

In the engine bay, one of the most anticipated upgrades would be the adoption of the newer Maruti Suzuki 1.2 litre three cylinder Z-Series petrol engine to replace the current 1.2 litre four cylinder K-Series engine. This Z12E engine is already used in Swift, Dzire and updated Baleno, where it delivers around 83hp and 112.4Nm of torque. The current 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will also come up to provide more performance oriented variant of Fronx.
