After a cameo in Maa, director Vishal Furia and actor R Madhavan are reuniting for another project. Furia is working on an untitled horror film with Madhavan in the lead. Last year, Madhavan had reprised his role as Vanraj from the 2024 film Shaitaan. The filmmaker revealed that he wanted to create a new kind of horror film with Madhavan at the forefront. The actor’s early horror film 13B (2009) has received cult status over the years. Meanwhile, Furia has created an interesting horror lineup in the past few years with his directorial debut Lapachhapi (2017), followed by Chhorii (2021), Chhorii 2 (2025) and, of course, Maa starring Kajol.

On his Instagram Stories, Furia revealed that he was honoured and blessed to have an opportunity to collaborate with such a prolific actor as , as he noted his legendary horror films 13B and Shaitaan and shared pics with the Bollywood and South star. He added, “God is kind. Devil is kinder.”

The filmmaker told Variety India that Madhavan had always been his first and only choice for the role in the untitled film. Furia shared that Madhavan had already started getting into the world of the film. Calling 13B one of his favourite films of all time, the director also stated, “[Madhavan’s] conviction, experience and understanding of serious horror are very rare, and I couldn’t think of anyone better for this film.”
Furia also said that the upcoming film would be a kind of horror feature that Indian audiences hadn’t experienced before. The untitled film would begin filming in early 2027. It is being produced by Rohit Ranjan under his banner, Frostlit Production Limited.
R Madhavan’s upcoming projects
The actor was last seen in the blockbuster Dhurandhar: The Revenge and the Tamil film GDN, which he co-wrote and produced. His upcoming films include Adhirshtasaali, Circle, Sudha Kongara’s Purananooru with Suriya, Benz in the Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe and the Netflix Tamil series Legacy. He plays Periyavar, an ageing gangster and patriarch of a crime empire in the period series yet to announce a release date.

Madhavan is also returning for several sequels, including Shaitaan 2, the next instalment of Tanu Weds Manu with Kangana Ranaut, and, of course, the long-awaited with Aamir Khan, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan are also expected to reprise their roles.
