IND vs WI: Jayden Seales fined for ‘dangerous’ throw at Yashasvi Jaiswal in Delhi

West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined 25% of his match fee by the ICC (International Cricket Council) for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct during the opening day of the second Test against India in New Delhi on Friday.

Seales was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers “throwing a ball (or any other cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

On the opening day of the second Test between India and the West Indies, during the 29th over, Seales fielded the ball on his follow-through and threw it towards the opening batter,

Seales challenged the sanction proposed by ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft, leading to a formal hearing. He claimed he was attempting a run-out. However, after reviewing footage from multiple angles, the Match Referee ruled the throw unnecessary and inappropriate, especially as Jaiswal was safely inside the crease.

As a result, Seales also received one demerit point, bringing his total to two within a 24-month period. His previous demerit point was from a Test match against Bangladesh in December 2024.

The charge was supported by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Alex Wharf, and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan. Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Yashasvi Jaiswal went on to score a phenomenal 175 (258) with the help of 22 fours in her innings. His innings ended in the most unfortunate manner possible due to a miscommunication with captain Shubman Gill on Day 2.

.However, captain Gill didn’t respond to the call, leaving him stranded in the middle, which eventually led to his run out.
