New Delhi: Remona Evette Pereira, a student from Mangaluru, made headlines after she set a global record by performing Bharatnatyam for 170 hours. Following the outstanding and unparalleled performance, Pereira got into the Golden Book of World Records.
Pereira, who is a student of the St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), is a final-year BA student. She started the performance for the record on July 21. She concluded the dance on July 28. The audience was amazed. They cheered her with applause and smiles. Her feat made Pereira the first individual to perform the Indian classical dance continously for this duration.
Christopher D’Souza, Director, Ranga Adhyayana Kendra, St Aloysius College, stated that the young woman took short breaks of 15 minutes between the long performance. “Remona, you have not only made Mangaluru proud but have lifted the name of every Leo with your perseverance and passion. You’ve turned your dream into history — and inspired an entire generation with your artistry and determination,” said an Instagram post.

Pereira began taking classical dance training at the age of three under the renowned guru Shrividya Muralidhar. She made her solo debut in 2019. Pereira’s Bharatnatyam record was not only a personal achievement but also a victory for the classical dance on a global level.
