GUWAHATI: A brief yet unexpected moment of drama unfolded inside the Lok Sabha, when two BJP Members of Parliament were caught on camera engaging in a scuffle over a seat.
The incident occurred while MP Tejasvi Surya was addressing the House during the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor. The video of this recent altercation, broadcast live on national television, has since gone viral on several social media platforms.
As Surya spoke on the government’s military response under Operation Sindoor, aimed at countering the recent Pahalgam terror incident, the attention of several viewers shifted to the background. There, two MPs were disputing over a vacant seat, with one attempting to claim it while the other resisted, after having sat down on it. The situation, though brief, presented a striking contrast to the otherwise serious tone of the debate.
The video footage showed the standing MP gesturing to assert his right to the seat while the other responded with visible frustration. Though parliamentary marshals did not intervene, the moment was widely shared online, with many commenting on the timing of the disruption during a high-stakes discussion on national security.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 21, and is scheduled to continue until August 21. The session is expected to be politically intense, with Operation Sindoor, national security, electoral reforms, and the Income Tax Bill 2025 among the primary issues on the agenda.
This session has followed a politically turbulent period marked by mass suspensions in Winter Session 2024 and continued scrutiny of the One Nation, One Election proposals.
