Elon Musk and Mukesh Ambani
The huge interest of investors in Elon Musk’s SpaceX, one of the world’s most talked about private tech companies, can also become good news for India’s biggest businessman Mukesh Ambani. Expectations are increasing in the market regarding the possible IPO of Jio Platforms. Due to continued enthusiasm for investment in tech companies globally, Jio is likely to get better valuation. However, the current market conditions and the history of big IPOs also raise some questions for investors.
According to the ET report, the strong demand shown by investors for Elon Musk’s SpaceX has indicated that global investors are still expressing confidence in big tech businesses. At a time when there is economic uncertainty in many parts of the world, the billion-dollar investment in SpaceX shows that the attraction towards technology-based companies has not diminished. India’s Jio Platforms can also benefit from this environment, which has been preparing for its IPO for a long time.
Jio’s huge business becomes strength
Reliance Jio is one of the largest telecom companies in India today. The company has more than 52 crore customers and crores of people use huge amounts of data on its network every month. Jio’s average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is around Rs 214. According to analysts, Jio’s annual operating revenue is around $15 billion and its EBITDA margin is more than 50 percent. This is the reason why many experts believe the valuation of the company to be around $130 billion.
Selling by foreign investors poses a challenge
Although Jio’s size and business are strong, market conditions are also important for an IPO. In the last one year, foreign investors have withdrawn more than $37 billion from the Indian stock market. In view of the increased valuations in emerging markets, many global funds are reducing investments. This is why Jio may have to rely more on domestic investors and Indian institutional investors in its IPO.
Bet on AI and digital services
Jio is also emphasizing on Artificial Intelligence and digital services for future earnings. The plan to provide affordable AI solutions through partnerships with companies like Meta could become a new revenue source for the company. Apart from this, digital content, e-commerce and media business are also important parts of Jio’s growth strategy. However, some investors believe that Jio’s AI model does not yet show the level of innovation that global investors are seeing in major US AI companies.
RBI’s role can help
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently taken some steps to increase liquidity in the market. If a large amount of money comes into the banking system from Indians living abroad, it may increase liquidity in the market. In such a situation, it may be easy for a big IPO like Jio to get adequate investment. Experts believe that if excess liquidity remains in the banking system then domestic investors will be more ready to participate in big issues.
History of big IPOs gives warning
However, every big IPO is not a guarantee of success. In a Mint report, market expert Ashish Gupta says that many record-breaking IPOs in history have come around the peak of the market. Reliance Power’s IPO in 2008 and Coal India’s IPO in 2010 are considered prime examples of this. After these issues, there was a big decline in the market. According to experts, big IPOs draw a large amount of cash from the market, which can increase pressure on the secondary market. Therefore investors should not make investment decisions based only on size or popularity.
Will Jio’s IPO become the next big bet?
The interest of investors in SpaceX has definitely indicated that there is no shortage of capital for big tech businesses. This may provide a positive environment for Jio Platforms’ IPO, but market liquidity, risk appetite of investors and global economic conditions will decide how much success Jio’s IPO actually achieves. At present, the eyes of the market are fixed on this much awaited issue of Ambani.
