Premanand Govind Sharan Maharaj ji’s statement: What to do if a woman gets periods during pilgrimage? In such a situation, should they have darshan of God or not?
This question must be arising in the minds of many women. Premanand Maharaj has replied on this.
Premanand Maharaj, a famous saint of Vrindavan, has described periods as not a crime but a sacred responsibility. He said that, in such a situation, women should not be deprived of darshan.
What should women do if they are on pilgrimage and get their periods?
A lady asked a question to Maharaj that many women come to us and they all have only one question that we reach here (the pilgrimage) with so much difficulty. Now if periods happen, what to do in that situation? To visit or not to visit?
Menstruation is not a shameful thing
In response to this question, Premanand Maharaj said that menstruation is not a very condemnable thing. This is a very praiseworthy thing. The mothers have taken upon themselves the murder of Devraj Indra. This is not a crime. Understand its secret. The reason why mothers have menstruation is Devraj Indra Tribhuvan ((heaven, earth and underworld)) husband. Brahma murder was committed against Indra itself.
Devraj Indra was accused of Brahmahatya for killing a Brahmin named Vritrasura. That Brahma murder was divided by the Brahma Rishis. It was decided to divide this defect into four parts, out of which one part was given to water, the second part to trees, the third part to land and the fourth part to women.
- River: The foam that is visible in water.
- Trees: The gum coming out of trees is considered a part of Brahma Hatya.
- Land: The pits on the land are considered to be part of the killing of Brahma.
- Woman: Periods in women are considered a part of killing Brahma.
Premanand Maharaj said that this is a worship of women. It was Indra who took it upon himself to kill Brahma. He has not committed any crime. Now for this he should be deprived of that benefit (pilgrimage). So this cannot happen.
Premanand Maharaj gave the solution
The saint said that after taking bath etc you should become pure and have darshan. You cannot gift anything or even touch anything, but you can make your life successful by having darshan from a distance. Because you can go to any place after working so hard. Not everyone has that much money, some manage to reach there somehow. Someone is busy with so many tasks and somehow finds time to go, he cannot remain deprived just because of this.
