According to sources, Rashid was detained at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. It is being told that he had reached Baku from Istanbul city of Türkiye and during the immigration check, the officials found irregularities in his travel documents. After this Rashid was detained. Indian intelligence agencies are now engaged in the process of his return (extradition). It is believed that this can prove to be a big success for India because Rashid was out of the reach of the police for the last several months.
Who is Rashid Cablewala?
Rashid Cablewala is a very trusted and close associate of Hashim Baba Gang of Delhi. Hashim Baba is currently in jail and in his absence Rashid was running the gang. According to the police, Rashid’s name is also linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate. Many angles of deals related to money and betel nut killing between the two gangs have come to light.
Fleeing from Türkiye reached Azerbaijan but could not escape
Sources say that after absconding from Delhi, Rashid was first hiding in Istanbul, Turkey. From there he moved to Azerbaijan to avoid the attention of the agencies. But as soon as he reached Baku airport, the immigration team noticed discrepancies in his documents and detained him there.
Name surfaced in many murders of Delhi
Rashid Cablewala’s name has been linked to many major incidents in Delhi in the last few years.
- September 2024: His name came up in the murder of businessman Nadir Shah in Greater Kailash-1.
- October 2024: He was also accused of a double murder case in East Delhi on Diwali night.
- December 2024: After the murder of businessman Sunil Jain in Krishna Nagar, he completely absconded.
After these incidents, Delhi Police included him in the “most wanted” list.
Was Rashid taking revenge for the murders?
Rashid Cablewala claimed in an interview in December 2024 that Jain’s murder was revenge for two other murders in the same area. He had said that the real target was someone else – a person named Virat, but Sunil Jain was killed by mistake. However, he denied his direct involvement. This statement brought a new twist in the police investigation.
