Nainital: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Here an 18 year old Dalit student was beaten to death just because he was friends with an upper caste girl. This boy named Ketan Lal, studying in class 12th, was given such tortures before being murdered that anyone would get goosebumps after listening to them.
This incident happened on Sunday. Ketan’s father Dhanpal Lal said in his complaint lodged with the police that the girl’s family called Ketan and his friend home. Then they locked both of them in a room overnight and beat them mercilessly. The girl’s father Yashbir Singh Panwar called Dhanpal on Monday morning and threatened that he had beaten his son and his friend badly and would now throw their bodies in the river.
Hearing this, when the frightened father reached the spot, he found both the boys soaked in blood. Ketan died while being taken to the hospital. On the way, Ketan narrated the entire incident to his father. He said that he had gone to her house with his friend only after the girl called her. But as soon as they reached there, the girl’s father and grandfather caught them and locked them in the room.
The family alleges that during the night-long fight, iron nails were hammered into Ketan’s feet and he was abused on the basis of caste. Ketan’s friend Diwakar is also seriously injured. He has suffered deep injuries on his head and body and is undergoing treatment.
Initial police investigation revealed that the girl’s family was strictly against her friendship with Ketan. Senior Superintendent of Police, Tehri Garhwal said that the girl’s father had earlier met Ketan’s father and warned him not to trouble his daughter. This terrible massacre took place due to this old rivalry.
In this case, the police have arrested the girl’s father Yashbir Singh Panwar and grandfather Vidyadutt Panwar. A case has been registered against them for murder and under the Scheduled Caste-Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police say they are waiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact severity of the injuries.
