Himesh Reshammiya Turns Down Films Without Romantic Songs, Cites Higher Returns

Mumbai: Music director Himesh Reshammiya has revealed his unique criteria for selecting film projects: the presence of a romantic track.

He candidly shared on Komal Nahta’s ‘Game Changers: The Music Series’ podcast that he often declines films lacking this element, prioritizing romantic compositions due to their significantly higher commercial success.

Reshammiya explained, “I frequently get situational films where I am required to make songs for two friends or siblings. They are just straight situational songs. Because I want to work on romantic songs, if 90% of the film consists of five or six situational songs and there is no romantic song, I turn them down.” He emphasized his clarity on the matter, stating, “The numbers coming from romantic songs are 10 times higher. I like doing romantic songs, and I am very good at it. When I work on a film, there is a certain expectation.”

He further added, “If I don’t deliver those numbers, they won’t say that the numbers weren’t good because there was no romantic song.” Reshammiya also touched upon the importance of timeless music, advocating for creating songs without the pressure of strict deadlines. He believes that true creativity flourishes when not constrained by time, leading to more impactful and memorable compositions that resonate with audiences long after their initial release.
