Patna’s Swati Maurya left banking preparation to become the first woman loco pilot of Patna Metro. Ignoring social taunts, he ran the inaugural train on 6 October. Her achievement is a matter of pride for Bihar and an inspiration for girls.
Patna: A girl who once got lost in the taunts of people, has today given an opportunity to the whole of Bihar to be proud. Swati Maurya, who was once preparing for banking, has now created history by becoming the first woman loco pilot of Patna Metro. On October 6, when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Patna Metro, Swati took command of the same train, that too in her home district.
From the bank line to the driving seat of the metro
Swati Maurya is a resident of Patna. He studied Zoology Honors from Patna Science College. After studies, she started preparing for banking with the dream of getting a government job. One day she went to the bank to submit the form, when some students were filling the recruitment form of Delhi Metro. Out of curiosity, Swati asked what is the form of? Got the answer: Delhi Metro recruitment has come out. From here the story changed. Swati also decided to fill the form. On the same day as the bank exam, there was also the metro exam. And he left the bank and chose metro.
First job and start of training
Swati was selected in Delhi Metro as Customer Relation Assistant (CRA) in 2011. Working hard and diligently, he took over the responsibility of station controller of Violet Line in 2016. Then in 2020, during the lockdown, she took the departmental examination and was promoted to the post of Train Operator (Loco Pilot). After 9 months of rigorous training, he took the responsibility of running the metro.
people used to taunt
Swati says, “When I said that I will drive the metro, many people used to laugh. They used to taunt me and say, am I driving a train or will I have an accident? Someone used to say, being a girl, how will I handle such a big machine? But I never paid attention. I responded with my work. When I drove the metro for the first time, my relatives said that how can you drive a train as a girl? I smiled and said that there is nothing difficult, you just need to have courage.”
Delhi to Patna tracks
On September 15, Swati returned to her home town Patna. And as luck would have it, he got a chance to drive a train in the inaugural trial of Patna Metro. Swati drove the train with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other officials. It was not just a journey, but a historic journey.
Pride of family, identity of Bihar
Swati’s father and family are extremely happy with this achievement. He made the entire family travel in Patna Metro. Today, this daughter of Bihar has not only become the pride of the state, but is also an inspiration for every girl who chases her dreams despite taunts and doubts. Metro service started for the first time in Bihar and its command is in the hands of a woman loco pilot. This is not just Swati’s victory, but every girl who dreams and has the courage to make them come true.
