India Create History Vs West Indies, Becomes First Team In The World After 65 Years To…

India are currently taking on the West Indies in the final Test of the two-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Like the first Test, India have been absolutely dominant, as they look to decimate the visitors once again to register a 2-0 whitewash series win.

India won the toss and opted to bat first, and they were absolutely dominant. In fact, the batters led by brilliant centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill created history as all of them combined to register a feat not matched in the last 65 years.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul started off the innings with a 58-run stand. After Rahul got out, Jaiswal then paired up with Sai Sudharsan to register a mammoth 193-run stand for the second wicket. For the third wicket, Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill put up 74 runs before the disastrous run out which got Jaiswal out for 175. Nitish Kumar Reddy was promoted up the order and he joined captain Shubman Gill to put on 91 runs for the 4th wicket. For the 5th wicket, Gill and Dhruv Jurel put up 102 runs, before India declared at 518/5.

This is the first time that batters of a single team have put up 50+ run stands for the first five wickets vs West Indies in a Test match in the past 65 years. Australia were the last team to do so in a rare tied Test against West Indies at the Gabba in 1960.

India have achieved this feat for the third time in Test Cricket history. The first time all of the first five partnerships of an Indian innings went over 50 runs each was in 1993 against England in Mumbai. The second time was against Australia in 2023 at Ahmedabad.

India On Top After Day 2

India were clearly on top throughout the first 2 days. Batting first, Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 175 runs, while captain Shubman Gill remained not out on 129 as they declared at 518/5. Sai Sudharsan also managed to score 88 runs.

With the ball, India have managed to restrict West Indies to 140/4 at the end of Day 2. Ravindra Jadeja has been the hero with the ball, having picked up three of these four wickets. India thus have a lead of 378 runs, and will be looking to enforce a follow-on against the visitors.
