Argentinian padel player Mariano Cabrera shared his first impressions of playing in India, highlighting how the country’s unique weather and court speed make for a completely different experience compared to South America.
“Yeah, I really love the conditions here in India,” Cabrera said in a conversation with Times Now. “It’s a little bit difficult to manage the ball because as soon as you hit it, it flies a little bit. But it’s really, really good. Once you get into it, it’s a lot of fun to play. I like it,” he added.
Cabrera, who has played extensively in Argentina and abroad, pointed out how the faster Indian courts pose a challenge for international players accustomed to heavier conditions back home.
Speaking to Mariam, he added, “We’ve met quite a few players from South America, and most of them have told us that the courts here are too fast.”
When asked about the difference, Cabrera explained that weather and altitude play a major role. “In Argentina, it depends on the weather you play in. When it’s not summer, it’s a little cold, so the ball feels heavier and not too fast. And I think we don’t have too much altitude in Argentina, and that’s one of the reasons why India feels really, really fast to play,” he said.
Before signing off, Cabrera ended on a warm note: “All the best. See you later, brothers.”
His observations underline how India’s warmer climate and higher bounce could give the sport a distinct playing style as padel continues to grow in the country’s fast-changing racket sports scene.
