New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu hailed young Indian shuttlers after they won THE bronze medal for the country at the Junior World Championships in Guwahati on Friday. India lost to Indonesia 45-35, 45-21 in the semi-final of the mixed team event to settle for the bronze medal. Nonetheless, it was a historic occasion for India as it was their first-ever podium finish in the competition.
India had confirmed a medal in the mixed team event at the competition after beating Republic of Korea in the quarter-final at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati on Thursday. India got off to a winning start in the semi-final against Indonesia after winning the men’s doubles tie, however, others failed to step up as they went down in the game.
Sindhu hailed the young Indian shuttlers for their spirited show in the tournament and predicted a bright future for Indian badminton. Sindhu said the future of badminton in India was “beautiful” as she lauded the shuttlers for the bronze medal victory.
“Our champs are shining bright! The future of Indian badminton is beautiful. Tough luck today, but wishing you the very best for the individual events ahead,” Sindhu, one of India’s best shuttlers of all time, wrote in a post on X.

Sindhu, who is the only Indian shuttler to have claimed the World Championships title, never managed to win a medal at the Junior World Championships in her career. Her best finish in the singles category in the tournament came in 2010, when she made it to the quarter-final. Sindhu won the gold medal in the girls’ singles category in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas in 2011 and also won the gold medal at the Asian Youth Championships the following year.
