Brahmadev worshiped Mahalakshmi here
This ancient temple of Goddess Lakshmi is located in Jainpur village of South Surma sub district of Sylhet district of Bangladesh. There are many beliefs associated with this temple which make it even more special. It is said that in ancient times, Lord Brahmadev’s ashram was at this place. Where Brahmadev worshiped Goddess Lakshmi for the first time. Later Goddess Mahalakshmi also appeared at this place.

This temple of Goddess Lakshmi is 2 storeyed. Statues of Goddess Bhairavi below and Goddess Mahalakshmi are installed on the upper floor. Crowds of devotees gather here on special occasions. Special worship is done here on occasions like Navratri, Diwali etc. This place is also famous for Tantra-Mantra Siddhi. On special occasions, a gathering of Tantrikas also takes place here.

There is also an interesting story related to this temple. According to him, during the 12th-13th century, when a person named Devi Prasad Das was getting laborers to build a road here, while digging the soil, a black rock came out here. Even after many efforts the workers could not remove it. At night, Goddess Mahalakshmi came to Devi Prasad in a dream and said, ‘You install me at this place and make arrangements for my worship every day.’ When Devi Prasad took out the stone, he was surprised to see the statue of the goddess. Later, Devi Prasad built a temple at this place and installed the idol of the goddess here. From then till today, the descendants of Devi Prasad are taking care of this temple.
