Himesh Reshammiya: Every Song Has Its Own Destiny, Timing is Key

Mumbai, October 27: Renowned music composer Himesh Reshammiya recently shared his insights into the longevity of music in Hindi cinema, emphasizing that every song possesses a unique destiny.

Speaking on film trade expert Komal Nahta’s ‘Game Changers: The Music Series’ podcast, Reshammiya discussed the creative process behind crafting timeless melodies, often long before they are assigned to films.

“I always feel that if you search for a song today, people say such music isn’t made. It’s because if you give me a deadline, like needing a song in a month, it’s possible a great song can be made, even in a minute. But it’s also possible it won’t be made. Due to these deadlines, when shooting happens within 15 days or a month, you often have to use whatever song is readily available, which might not be ideal,” Reshammiya explained.

He further elaborated on his method: “If you create something without time pressure, something truly great, it becomes a sample. I have 100-200 people review it; if they say it’s good, it goes into stock. Then, it might be released after 10 or even 20 years. Many of my songs, like the tune for ‘Hookah Bar’ which came out in 2012, were actually composed in 2004 or 2005.”

Reshammiya concluded by stressing the importance of the basic musical graph and hook line, but ultimately, “It is very important to come with the right timing. And that is somewhere where my calculation has worked by the grace of God.” His comments offer a fascinating glimpse into the patient and strategic approach behind some of Bollywood’s most popular tracks.
