Amir Khan Muttaqi India visit: Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited Darul Uloom of Deoband. This is the first visit of a senior Taliban minister to India, which will strengthen India-Afghanistan cultural and spiritual ties.

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki visited the famous Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh as part of his six-day visit to India. This is the first time that a senior Taliban minister has made an official visit to India after assuming power in Kabul. This visit is being seen as new opportunities in the relations between the two countries.

Muttaki expressed the cultural and spiritual importance of Deoband

Foreign Minister Muttaki, after reaching Deoband, emphasized the cultural and spiritual role of the Islamic Education Centre. He said, “Deoband is a deep spiritual center for Afghanistan and South Asia. The purpose of meeting the Ulema here is to further strengthen the religious and cultural relations between the two countries.” He expressed hope that more Afghan students will get education here in future.

Muttaki said that the people of Darul Uloom and citizens of the surrounding area welcomed him warmly. Deoband-Afghanistan: Analysis of historical and ideological relations

A report by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) states that Afghan scholars were among the earliest foreign students of Deoband, who established madrassas in their country after studying there. The Taliban also links its ideological identity to the Indian Deobandi tradition. This tour is being considered as an attempt to isolate itself from the influences of Pakistan and establish its unique identity.

According to IANS report, Deobandi teaching method has also been adopted in Pakistan’s Darul Uloom Haqqania. Its founder Maulana Abdul Haq had studied and taught in Deoband before partition. This madrasa has an important place in the ideology formation of the Taliban movement.

Saharanpur Superintendent of Police Sagar Jain said that security agencies have made extensive security arrangements keeping in mind Muttaki’s visit. Due to the coordination between the district administration and Darul Uloom administration, the program is being conducted peacefully and orderly.

Muttaqi interacted closely with the local students and also visited the historical library of Darul Uloom. His visit has aroused enthusiasm and hope among the students and local people. He said, “The relations between Deoband and Afghanistan are not only religious, but also social and cultural, which will be further strengthened.”
