Yashasvi Jaiswal gets dismissed stupidly amid a mix-up with the Indian captain, on the other hand. Batter leaves the ground his shaking his head in despair after missing out on a double century.
As the second Test between India and the West Indies began yesterday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Yashasvi Jaiswal turned Day 1 into a nightmare for the West Indies batters. He joined forces alongside Sai Sudharsan as the duo notched a mammoth 197-run partnership for the second wicket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal slams forehead after missing out on a well-deserved Double hundred
Day 2 of the second Test began on a brighter note with Captain Shubman Gill taking the field alongside centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander ended Day 1 on a strong note, having scored 173* with no aerial risks and just pure class.
In the second ball of the 92nd over, Jaiswal, much like the previous ball, drove a fuller ball towards the mid-off fielder, and Tegnarine Chaderpaul, who stood a few steps forward this time, threw the ball towards the wicket-keeper’s end, and Jaiswal, having stepped out had no chance to return to his crease with no response from skipper Shubman Gill.
Both the captain and Jaiswal are left stunned as the batter slams his forehead out of frustration.
Nitish Reddy was promoted up the order for the Second Test
Unfortunate for Jaiswal that he missed out on his much-deserved hundred; however, it proved to be a blessing in disguise for the young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Reddy, who didn’t get an outing with the bat in the previous game at Ahmedabad, has been promoted up the order as the stage for a huge total was set after Jaiswal’s epic ton.
The right-handed lower-order batter who contributed to India’s limited success in Australia immensely was not seen in the best of touch in the England tour. Though at times he provided crucial knocks, having spent a lot of time on the crease, his bat didn’t seem to do the talking as before.
With Hardik Pandya ruled out of the Australia tour and Nitish Kumar Reddy being pitched as India’s upcoming all-rounder, he must restore his batting antics since his bowling is not often a remarkable attribute for his selection. With some towering hits at the Arun Jaitley, Reddy is relishing this opportunity.
Should Jaiswal be rewarded with an ODI spot after his Test heroics?
After having dominated almost every nation he has played a Test against and with 3000+ Test runs and 7 Test hundreds within the age of 23, Yashasvi Jaiswal was deemed as India’s true all-format star by the Indian cricket fans.
However, the spark that fans have seen in the young Mumbaikar should also be enough to light up the eyes of the selectors as well as the team management. Having dropped from the Champions Trophy squad despite initial selection, Jaiswal is finally picked for a full ODI series against Australia.
However, with Rohit Sharma’s return and Shubman Gill named the ODI skipper, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s featuring in the Indian XI would be a very tough job. However, after his recent antics, the Gautam Gambhir-led management should consider handing him an opportunity to prove his merit as a white-ball opener.
