One day Sumedha told his wife that he wanted to go abroad to earn money, because it was becoming difficult to run his family life without money. But his wife explained that a man gets the fruits of his previous birth’s deeds and he gets only what is written in his destiny. She requested her husband not to go anywhere. Following his wife’s advice, Sumedha stayed at home.
After some time, Maharishi Kaundinya came to his house. The couple honored him. Then the Brahmin’s wife asked for a solution to get rid of her poverty. Maharishi advised him to observe fast on Param Ekadashi falling in Krishna Paksha of Malmas. He told that this fast will remove all sins, sorrows and poverty. He also explained the importance of Pancharatri fast observed for five days.
As per Maharishi’s instructions, the Brahmin and his wife religiously observed Param Ekadashi and Pancharatri fast. After the completion of the fast, a prince came to him under the inspiration of Lord Brahma and provided him a beautiful house to live in and a village to live.
Due to the effect of Param Ekadashi fast, the couple started living a happy and prosperous life. At last, after enjoying the worldly pleasures, he attained heaven.
