India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its strong growth trajectory in May 2026, registering total retail sales of 1,70,733 units. This represents a robust 62.76% growth over 1,04,896 units sold in May 2025. On a month-on-month basis too, the segment posted healthy gains of 14.79% over April 2026, highlighting sustained momentum across most major EV brands.
TVS Motor retained its leadership position in the electric two-wheeler space, while Bajaj Auto continued to narrow the gap. Ather Energy delivered its strongest growth among the top three players, while Ola Electric remained the only major brand to report a year-on-year decline.

Electric 2W Sales May 2026
TVS sold 42,459 electric scooters in May 2026, registering a 64.54% YoY growth from 25,804 units sold in May 2025. The company commanded a 24.87% market share, maintaining its position as the largest electric two-wheeler brand in the country.
Bajaj Auto was not far behind with 39,202 units sold, posting an even stronger 73.14% YoY growth. Bajaj’s market share stood at 22.96%, placing it just 3,257 units behind TVS. The success of the Chetak lineup continues to strengthen Bajaj’s position in the rapidly expanding EV market.

Ather Doubles Sales, Hero Vida Surges
Ather Energy recorded one of the strongest performances among established players. The company retailed 28,240 units in May 2026, exactly doubling its sales from 14,101 units in May 2025. With 100.27% growth, Ather captured 16.54% of the market.
Hero MotoCorp’s Vida range also witnessed impressive gains. Sales surged 158.19% to 19,067 units, compared to 7,385 units a year ago. Vida now commands an 11.17% share of the electric two-wheeler market and continues to emerge as a serious challenger to the established EV players.

Ola Electric Reports Decline
Among major brands, Ola Electric was the only manufacturer to post a year-on-year decline. The company sold 15,141 units in May 2026, down 20.17% from 18,967 units sold in May 2025. Despite recording a healthy 24.4% month-on-month improvement over April 2026, Ola’s market share has reduced to 8.87%, placing it fifth in the overall rankings behind TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero Vida.
Greaves Ampere registered sales of 7,695 units, up 77.92% YoY. River EV continued its impressive expansion with sales jumping 245.08% to 3,720 units, while BGauss more than tripled volumes to 3,297 units, posting 204.71% growth. These figures indicate that the electric two-wheeler market is increasingly becoming more competitive, with newer players steadily expanding their presence alongside established brands.

Another notable trend in May 2026 was the rising penetration of electric two-wheelers. EVs accounted for 9.25% of total two-wheeler retail sales, up from 7.92% in April 2026 and 6.11% in May 2025. This translates to a gain of over 3 percentage points on a year-on-year basis, indicating that EV adoption continues to accelerate. While petrol-powered two-wheelers still dominate with a 90.68% share, their market share has steadily declined from 93.67% a year ago as more buyers shift towards electric scooters, driven by expanding product choices and improving charging infrastructure.
