Former champion New Zealand has finally opened its account in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 being played in India and Sri Lanka. The Kiwi team, which lost both the initial matches of the tournament, finally registered its first win in the third match. In the 11th match of the tournament played in Guwahati, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by a huge margin of 100 runs. With this, 7 teams have opened their accounts in this 8-team tournament and Pakistan is the only team which is at the last position with 0 points.

Tight bowling by Bangladesh, but Divine shines again

In this match held on Friday 10th October, the performance of the bowlers was seen and it was started by the bowlers of Bangladesh. New Zealand, captained by Sophie Devine, batted first in the match but the Bangladeshi bowlers restricted them to such an extent that it took 38 overs and 4 wickets to reach 150 runs. The team had lost the wickets of top-3 batsmen for only 38 runs, whose captain Captain Divine and Brook Halliday together made a partnership of 112 runs in 27.3 overs.

Halliday in particular proved to be very slow and he took 104 balls to score 69 runs. While Divine continued his good form and scored 63 runs after scoring 50 in the third consecutive match. In the end, Lia Tahuhu and Isabella Gage scored some quick runs and took the team to 227 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. For Bangladesh, leg spinner Rabeya Khan took 3 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs.

But Bangladeshi batting failed again

If New Zealand’s experienced batsmen had to struggle so much then it was going to be even more difficult for Bangladesh. This is what happened and the team lost 6 wickets in 14 overs, while only 33 runs were scored. After this, a small partnership of 33 runs gave hope but at the score of 66, the 7th wicket also fell and the team seemed to collapse before 100 runs. But Fahima Khatoon along with Rabeya made a partnership of 44 runs and took the team beyond 100 runs. Ultimately the entire team collapsed for 127 runs in 39.5 overs. Jess Karr and Tahuhu took 3-3 wickets for New Zealand.

This is the condition of the points table

With this result, 7 out of 8 teams of the tournament got points. New Zealand got 2 points from this victory and now it has reached fifth place in the table. The Bangladeshi team, which made its debut by defeating Pakistan, is at sixth position with 2 points after 2 consecutive defeats. Australia is at first place with 5 points, England is at second (4), India is at third (4) and South Africa is at fourth (4). Whereas Pakistan, which lost all its three matches, has not been able to open its account and is at the last position.
