India’s premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah made history after featuring his 50th Test match for the Indian team. Bumrah became the first Indian fast bowler to appear in 50 games across all formats immediately after being selected in the playing XI for India’s second Test match against the West Indies.
The Shubman Gill-led Indian side is currently having a strong run in their home series against the West Indies after a hard-fought drawn Test series in England.
On Day 1 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the team maintained its dominant performance following a resounding victory in the first Test in Ahmedabad. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s incredible and unbeaten 173 in the lead got support from Sai Sudharsan’s strong 87.
During the team’s dominant outing, Bumrah made his 50th appearance in the format and set a new record by featuring in the second Test match. He is now the only Indian fast bowler to have played in all three international formats (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is) and to have appeared in 50 or more Test matches.
Indian players with 50 matches across formats:
- MS Dhoni
- Virat Kohli
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Ravi Ashwin
- Rohit Sharma
- KL Rahul
- Jasprit Bumrah
Although he will only be able to play in the game’s shortest format, Bumrah has been chosen for the forthcoming tour to Australia. During the Asia Cup 2025, he recently led the Indian pace attack. Bumrah’s workload management is the reason for his partial absence from the Australian tour.
The team management is eager to prevent burnout after playing in the demanding England series, the Asia Cup, and now the home series against the West Indies. Bumrah is firmly concentrating on getting ready for and competing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 by just playing in the shortest format.
Speaking of the current second Test match against the West Indies, India piled up 318/2 by the end of Day 1 thanks to Jaiswal’s outstanding 173 and Sudharsan’s skillfully constructed 87.
