Sawan Shivratri 2026: Saavan is considered a very holy month in Hindu religion. This year the month of Sawan will start from 30th July and will end on 28th August. This month has been dedicated to Mahadev, the god of gods. According to mythological beliefs, Mahadev had taken the poison that came out of the churning of the ocean in his throat, but after consuming the poison, due to the effect of the poison, heat started increasing in his body. Then the gods offered him water to cool his body. All this incident happened in the month of Sawan, hence there is a tradition of special worship of Shiva and Jalabhishek in Sawan.

Shivratri falling in this month also has special significance. The Shivaratri which falls in the month of Sawan is called Sawan Shivratri. It is believed that every year in Sawan, Lord Shiva comes to his in-laws’ house. The day of Sawan Shivratri is considered as fruitful as Mahashivratri. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva on Shivratri of Sawan and offering water on Shivalinga, all the troubles of life go away. Like Mahashivratri, even on Sawan Shivratri, Bholenath is worshiped in four periods. This year Shivratri of Sawan month will be celebrated on 11 August 2026. Date of Sawan Shivratri (Sawan Shivratri 2026 Tithi)

  • According to Drik Panchang, this time the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Sawan will start from 04:54 am on 11 August 2026.
  • This date will end the next day on August 12, 2026 at 01:52 am.

In such a situation, it would be auspicious to celebrate Saavan Shivratri on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The Nishita Kaal Muhurta for worshiping Lord Shiva on Sawan Shivratri will be from 12:05 AM to 12:48 AM.

Sawan Shivratri 2026 Char Prahar Muhurat

The first Prahar Puja Muhurta will be from 07:04 pm to 09:45 pm. The second Prahar Puja Muhurta will be from 09:45 pm to 12:26 pm. The third Prahar puja auspicious time will be from 12.26 am to 03.07 am. Fourth Prahar Puja Muhurat will be from 03:07 AM to 05:49 AM.
