Who is Maria Corina Machado?
The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the prize in recognition of his efforts to promote the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and to peacefully transition from dictatorship to democracy. María Corina Machado, leader of the democracy movement in Venezuela, is considered a shining example of civic courage in Latin America in recent times. She is known for uniting opposition parties. Under his leadership the opposition came together and demanded free elections and representative government. At a time when democracy is under threat, such united effort and support is very important.

Nobel Prize winner gets so many crores of rupees
The Nobel Prize ceremony will be held on 10 December. This day is celebrated as the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel, who established these awards. Alfred Nobel was a wealthy industrialist from Sweden and invented dynamite. He died in 1896. Each award winner gets approximately 11 million Swedish kronor i.e. approximately Rs 10.5 crore as cash reward. Apart from this, he is also given an 18 carat gold medal and a diploma.
