National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced a new and smart system for UPI Autopay, which is of great benefit to the common people. Now you will be able to easily see all the regular payments (mandates) going on in different UPI apps in your phone and if you want, you will be able to transfer these mandates from one app to another.
The purpose of this new system is that users have better control over all their autopay payments and they can choose any UPI app as per their choice, which will make payments even easier and safer.
What is UPI Autopay and what is new in it?
In UPI Autopay i.e. automatic payment, you can automatically deduct the regular bill of any service like mobile recharge, DTH, or subscription fees from your bank account without making manual payments again and again. Earlier, the information about the mandates created in different apps was visible only in that app. Now after the new rules of NPCI, you will be able to login to any UPI app and see the mandates of all your apps at one place.
Not only this, if for some reason you want to transfer your mandate from one app to another, this will also be possible now. This will give consumers complete freedom to make payments through the UPI app of their choice.
When will this change come into effect?
NPCI has directed all UPI apps and payment service providers to implement this new system by December 31, 2025. This means that within the next one and a half years this facility will be available to all users.
How will users benefit from this change?
The biggest benefit to the users from this new system will be that they will be able to have complete control over their regular payments. Whether you have Google Pay or PhonePe on your phone, all the autopay mandates active in both the apps will be visible to you at one place. With this you will know which of your bills are being deducted automatically and you will be able to do your financial planning in a better way.
Also, if you do not like the service of any app or want to transfer to a new app, you can port the mandate without any hassle. This will increase your convenience and payment will be even more secure.
What instructions has NPCI given to UPI apps?
NPCI has clearly said that the process of viewing and porting mandate in UPI apps will be completely under the control of the user. This facility will be completely transparent and secure. Additionally, UPI apps will also have to ensure that the information related to the mandate is used only for the intended purpose and not for any other solicitation or marketing.
