Odisha FC Aim to Bounce Back
Odisha FC have collected just one point from their opening two matches and will be eager to turn their campaign around in front of their home supporters.
The Juggernauts began the season with a 2-1 defeat against Punjab FC before settling for a 1-1 draw against Inter Kashi. Head coach TG Purushothaman will expect his players to improve their finishing and defensive organisation as they seek their first three points.
Purushothaman acknowledged that NorthEast United would pose a difficult challenge, highlighting the visitors’ understanding and combinations after playing together over the past two to three seasons.
The Odisha coach also stressed the importance of managing pressure and concentrating on the team’s performance.
NorthEast United Look to Extend Winning Run
NorthEast United FC have enjoyed an impressive start under Juan Pedro Benali, collecting six points from their first two matches.
The Highlanders opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mohun Bagan Super Giant before producing a commanding 4-1 win against Kerala Blasters FC.
Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored twice against Kerala Blasters, while Antonio Moyano and CK Aman also got on the scoresheet. The attacking unit will look to maintain its momentum against an Odisha defence that has conceded goals in both opening fixtures.
However, Benali has warned his players against underestimating the hosts. Odisha defeated NorthEast United 4-1 in their previous meeting in March, with Rahul K.P. scoring twice.
The NorthEast United coach said his team did not want to repeat the mistake of underestimating Odisha, referring to the previous encounter.
Team News and Injury Updates
NorthEast United will be without defender Asheer Akhtar, who is recovering from a broken rib.
Odisha FC, meanwhile, will look to strengthen their defensive unit with new signing Stephen Eze. His presence could prove important as the hosts attempt to contain NorthEast United’s attacking threat.
