In case the moon is not visible in the sky on Karva Chauth, women should worship Moon God as per the rules prescribed by the scriptures. They should be offered water. If women wish, they can break the fast by seeing the moon seated on the forehead of Lord Shiva. For this, Arghya should be offered to Moon God in the right direction and time. At that time one should have darshan of Moon God through a sieve. After this, the fast should be broken by looking at the husband through a sieve. If there is no idol of Lord Shiva in the house, a moon shape should be made from rice or pure flour on a platform on the roof and then it should be worshipped.
