Why do we worship Lord Ganesha and Moon on Karva Chauth?
On Karva Chauth, Lord Shri Ganesha is worshiped first and then the Moon. According to religious texts, the main deity of Chaturthi Tithi is Lord Shri Ganesh and the festival of Karva Chauth is celebrated on Chaturthi Tithi only, hence Shri Ganesh is worshiped first in this fast. From the astrological point of view, there is a conjunction of Moon and Rohini Nakshatra only once in a year on Chaturthi Tithi. Rohini is the most beloved wife of Moon. To ensure that the love between husband and wife remains the same as that of the Moon and Rohini, hence the Moon is worshiped on Karva Chauth.
