Speaking candidly on The Ranveer Show, Bobby Deol reflected on his journey in the industry, from his initial success to the long period of struggle, and now his strong comeback.
While Bobby Deol was working on Soldier, the team was actively seeking a fresh face to cast opposite him. Around the same time, Bobby Deol happened to visit filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor’s office for a separate meeting. It was there that Bobby Deol noticed a young woman giving a screen test for another project.
That young woman was Preity Zinta.
Bobby Deol recalled being surprised to see Preity Zinta there. The last time Bobby Deol had interacted with Preity Zinta, she had expressed her interest in becoming a criminal psychologist, not an actor. Seeing her audition for a film came as a complete shock to Bobby Deol.
Interestingly, around the same time, a popular Liril soap advertisement featuring Preity Zinta had caught attention. Bobby Deol connected the dots quickly. Impressed by her presence and potential, Bobby Deol suggested her name to the makers of Soldier.
The recommendation worked in her favor. Preity Zinta was eventually cast in Soldier, marking one of her early breakthroughs in Bollywood. The film went on to become a success and played a significant role in establishing Preity Zinta as a leading actress in the industry.
In the same conversation, Bobby Deol also spoke about his own career graph. After enjoying massive popularity in his early years, Bobby Deol went through a difficult phase that lasted nearly 10 to 15 years. It was a period marked by uncertainty, when job opportunities slowed, and success became rare.
However, Bobby Deol never gave up. His recent performances, especially in films like Animal, have brought him back into the spotlight, earning him praise from both audiences and critics.
Bobby Deol’s story is not just about success and struggle, but also about timing, instinct, and supporting others along the way. His recollection of Preity Zinta’s journey is a reminder of how small moments can shape big careers in Bollywood.
