PNG Connection Mandatory: How much time has been given to LPG consumers in Vadodara to get PNG connection? Under what circumstances can VGL initiate the process of shutting down LPG supply? Can tenants also apply for PNG connection and what is the application process?
If you live in any housing society of Vadodara and are still using LPG cylinder for cooking, then you may see a big change in the coming months. Vadodara Gas Limited (VGL) has started issuing notices to several housing societies to promote Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in the city.
These notices clearly state that people living in areas where the PNG network is available will have to apply for a PNG connection within the stipulated time limit. If this is not done, the process of stopping LPG supply may begin.
Not a rumour, the company confirmed
Initially many people considered this news as a rumour, but later Vadodara Gas Limited officially confirmed it. Written information is being sent by the company to various housing societies. In the letter sent to Nirav Park Society, Makarpura, it has been told that it will be mandatory to apply for PNG connection within three months from the date of receipt of the notice. After the stipulated time, action can be taken to ban LPG supply.
After all, why is PNG being promoted?
According to VGL, the Central Government has placed natural gas in the category of essential commodity and special emphasis is being laid on delivering gas to domestic consumers through PNG. The government aims to achieve two major goals-
- Reducing dependence on LPG cylinders
- To ensure maximum utilization of the PNG network being developed across the country.
PNG is not only convenient, but is also considered a better option in many cases in terms of regular gas supply and safety.
Why is the three month time limit important?
According to VGL officials, this decision has been taken on the basis of regulatory orders of the Central Government. In the guidelines issued earlier, it was said that consumers who have PNG connection will not be able to take LPG refill. They will have to complete the process of closing or transferring their LPG connection.
Under the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026 implemented after this, gas distribution companies have been given the right to start the process of stopping LPG supply in those areas where PNG network is already present.
Oil companies have also given warning
In May 2026, the country’s major oil companies, Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), had jointly issued a public notice. In this notice, consumers were advised to check the availability of PNG service in their area and apply as soon as possible. Consumers who already have a PNG connection will have to surrender their LPG connection. For this, help can be taken from MyPNGD portal or the concerned gas distributor.
Who can take PNG connection?
According to Vadodara Gas Limited, it is not necessary to be a landlord to apply for PNG connection. If a person is legally living in that house, whether he is an owner or a tenant, he can apply for a PNG connection. According to the company’s data, about 17 thousand applications have been received since March 2026. Out of these, about 11 thousand new PNG connections have been issued.
PNG network is growing rapidly
VGL is currently working on network expansion even in those areas of the city where PNG service is not currently available. The company aims to connect more and more houses to the piped gas network so that in future the domestic gas supply can be operated in a completely modern and systematic manner.
The process accelerated after the amendment of the Ministry
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had issued an important amendment under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 on May 25. After this amendment, the process of promoting PNG and reducing dependence on LPG has accelerated. The government and gas distribution companies are now emphasizing on implementing PNG as the primary option in areas where infrastructure is already available.
What should consumers do?
If PNG network is available in your area, get information about it in time and complete the necessary procedure. This will avoid any inconvenience related to gas supply in future. This initiative started in Vadodara can become a model for other cities of the country in the coming times, where PNG network is expanding rapidly.
