New Delhi: BR Gavai, Chief justice of India has expressed his thought on the shoe attack incident saying that he was deeply shocked. He described it as a “forgotten chapter” and added that “My learned brother and i were very shocked with the what happened on Monday, for us it is a forgotten chapter.”
In a report by Live Law, advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan in a discussion recalled a similar incident ten years back. “I also wrote article on this…something similar happened 10 years ago in the neighbouring court. The two judges there had taken a different view on what procedure should be followed while invoking contempt powers,” he added.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan who was also the part of bench during the incident strongly criticised the attack. He said, “I have my own views on this. He is the Chief Justice of India, its not a matter of joke! I am not apologetic thereafter; it’s an affront to the institution.”
He was indicating to the decision made by CJI of not taking any legal action against Rakesh Kishore, a 71 year old lawyer, involved in the attack.
