Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said at Chhattisgarh Vaidya Sammelan, Raipur that the government will provide training and certificate to all registered Vaidyas. Emphasis was laid on developing Chhattisgarh as a ‘Herbal State’ and empowering local Vaidyas.

Raipur. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai attended the state level traditional Vaidya conference organized at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in the capital Raipur. This event was organized by Chhattisgarh Tribal Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board.

Vaidyas will get training and registration certificate

The Chief Minister said that the state government will provide training to all the registered Vaidyas and provide them with registration certificates. With this, they will not face any problem due to lack of documents.

Vaidyas welcomed with traditional herbs

In the programme, Vaidyas from different districts of the state welcomed the Chief Minister by garlanding him with traditional herbs. The Chief Minister also visited the exhibition of medicinal plants organized on the spot.

Mention of Padmashree Hemchand Manjhi – symbol of tradition and pride

Giving the example of Padmashree Shri Hemchand Manjhi, Chief Minister Sai said that despite living in a remote area, Manjhi ji has successfully treated serious diseases with his traditional knowledge. He said that people even from America come to him for treatment — it is a matter of pride for the entire state. The Chief Minister said that there are about 60 to 70 thousand Vaidyas in India, out of which about 1500 Vaidyas are actively working in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh will become a herbal state – WHO also recognized

Chief Minister Sai said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has also recognized the traditional medical system of India. He said that Chhattisgarh has made its mark as a “Herbal State” in the country. More than one and a half thousand medicinal plants are found in the state. A factory has been set up in Jamgaon, Patan in Durg district to extract extracts from these plants.

Naturopathy is getting encouragement under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is promoting naturopathy and AYUSH system. To speed up the work in this direction, a separate Ministry of AYUSH has been formed.

Cluster based model will increase employment and use of medicinal plants.

Chief Minister Sai said that high quality herbs are available in Chhattisgarh. The state government is developing a cluster based model so that maximum use of local herbs can be made. He said that the aim of the government is to economically empower the local Vaidyas by connecting them with employment. Besides, concrete steps are being taken towards conservation of medicinal plants and trees.

Important role of Vaidyas in the society: Minister Ramvichar Netam

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam said that Vaidyas have a very important place in the society. Comparing Padmashree Hemchand Manjhi with Sushen Vaidya of Ramayana period, he said that just as Sushen Vaidya had treated rare diseases of Laxman ji, similarly Manjhi ji is successfully treating rare diseases today. He said that the contribution of traditional healers is invaluable for both human and animal health.

Medicinal plants will be planted in the state under ‘Navratna Yojana’

Board Chairman Shri Vikas Markam said that more than 1300 Vaidyas have been registered in the conference. He said that the Board will soon take initiative to plant nine types of plants having medicinal properties like Harra, Bahera, Amla, Munga across the state under “Navratna Yojana”.

Treatment of diseases from their root is possible with traditional knowledge: Padmashree Manjhi

Padmashree Hemchand Manjhi, while sharing his experiences, said that physicians have the art of eliminating diseases from their roots. He said that with the right information and combination of medicines, Vaidyas can treat even serious diseases like cancer.

Vaidyas are playing the role of public service in interior areas

Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chief of Forest Force Shri V. Srinivas Rao said that in those areas of the state where modern medical services are not accessible, traditional Vaidyas are serving the people with the knowledge of their ancestors. He said that it is the responsibility of all of us to empower and protect these Vaidyas.

Vaidyas took oath of integrity and secrecy

In the presence of the Chief Minister, the Vaidyas who came from all over the state took the oath of integrity and secrecy towards their duty. In the programme, the Chief Minister provided medicinal grinding machines to 25 Vaidyas.

Release of new book – Compilation of traditional treatment methods

On this occasion, the Chief Minister released the book of Dr. Devyani Sharma published by Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board. In this book, treatment methods and medicinal plants preserved by the traditional physicians of Durg forest circle have been compiled.

Many dignitaries present at the conference

Shri J., CEO of Chhattisgarh Tribal Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board was present in the program. A. C.S. Rao, Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board Chairman Shri Rakesh Chaturvedi, Ayush University Vice Chancellor Shri Pradeep Kumar Patra, doctors from across the state and distinguished citizens were present.
