Earthquake In Bhutan: An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude occurred in Bhutan on Thursday morning. According to the National Seismology Centre, the tremor was felt at 4.29 am. The depth of the earthquake was only 5 kilometers. After this, there is a possibility of more shocks i.e. aftershocks.
Earthquake has happened twice before also
This is not the first earthquake this year in Bhutan. There were also two earthquakes here on 8 September 2025. The first earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred at 12:49 pm and its depth was 10 kilometers. The second earthquake of 4.2 magnitude was felt at 11:15 am. Both the tremors were felt in different areas of Bhutan. According to earthquake experts, earthquakes that occur near the surface are more dangerous because their tremors reach the ground quickly and with more force, which increases the risk of damage.

Included in the earthquake prone areas of the world
Bhutan falls in a very sensitive area regarding earthquakes. It is located in the Himalayan region and is one of the most earthquake prone areas in the world. Not only earthquakes, but other natural disasters also often cause damage in Bhutan. Incidents like bursting of glacier lake, landslides, strong winds, flash floods and forest fires keep happening here. The houses of thousands of villagers were also damaged by the strong winds in 2011 and 2013.
