Did PM Modi create a new history in Indian politics by breaking the record of 4,399 days? Is breaking of Jawaharlal Nehru’s 62-year-old record a sign of a new chapter in power? Which proposal is going to be passed in the big meeting of NDA, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed? Amidst America’s congratulations and nationwide celebrations, what will be PM Modi’s next big political step?
New Delhi: Wednesday, June 10, 2026, has been recorded as a historical milestone in the history of Indian democracy, which has turned all the old pages of politics upside down. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become India’s longest serving ‘elected’ Prime Minister, crossing the mark of 4,399 consecutive days in office. With this unprecedented achievement, he has broken the decades-old record of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. From Delhi to Washington, this echo has intensified the stir in political circles.

That spell of 4,398 days…which was finally broken!
The timeline behind this mega-record has been very interesting and full of suspense. After the country’s first general elections in the year 1952, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took oath of office on 13 May and he remained on this post till 27 May 1964 (his death). In this way he completed a continuous tenure of 4,398 days as the elected Prime Minister.

Although Nehru remained in office for a total of 17 years, his initial tenure from 1947 to 1952 was as head of an interim government without elections. On the other hand, Indira Gandhi also ruled in pieces for a total of 14 years, but she lost power in 1977 after the Emergency. In such a situation, Narendra Modi, who came to power with absolute majority in the year 2014, has left behind the ‘elected’ record of Nehru, who was once considered immortal, by assuming the third consecutive term in 2019 and again on 9 June 2024.

To celebrate this historic day and the completion of 12 successful years of the government, a very high-profile and grand meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been called at ‘Bharat Mandapam’ in New Delhi. Political pundits are keeping an eye on this meeting.

Chanting of mantras, havan and politics: rituals from temples to cow shelters
This extraordinary political achievement has not been limited to just meetings, but has been transformed into a big celebration. Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP national president Nitin Nabin, senior party leaders have turned the capital into a center of religious rituals. While on one hand Nitin Nabin and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra are offering special prayers at the Jhandewalan temple, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta along with North-West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia is leading the maha-havan at the Ram temple located in Kishanganj Gaushala. Dozens of MPs and MLAs including Sunil Bansal, Bansuri Swaraj and Manoj Tiwari are currently engaged in rituals for the long life of PM Modi and the future of the country.

Surprise message came from Washington: Superpower also became a fan!
Amidst this domestic celebration, a congratulatory message from America across the seven seas has caught the attention of the world. US Senator John Cornyn, co-chairman of the Senate India Caucus, congratulated PM Modi on the social media platform ‘X’ and termed his tenure as “transformative”. Cornyn wrote: “Congratulations to PM @narendramodi on becoming India’s longest serving elected Prime Minister. Leading for 4,399 days by winning the trust of 1.4 billion people through three democratic mandates is unprecedented. From lifting 25 crore people out of poverty to making India the world’s fastest growing major economy, his tenure has been historic.”

Way forward: Is Modi going to take even bigger decisions?
After breaking Nehru’s record, now everyone’s eyes are on what will be the next step of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at this stage of his third consecutive term? In this grand conference of NDA, not only the past will be patted on the back, but the blueprint for tough and big decisions of the government in the coming years, i.e. the ‘roadmap for the future’ will also be decided. It will be very exciting to see in what new direction this new milestone takes Indian politics in terms of the country’s economy and global diplomacy. The suspense is now on the upcoming decisions!
