WATCH: 2 wickets in 2 balls! Chris Woakes rattles India with fiery 1st over in Manchester Test

New Delhi: Chris Woakes rattled India early in their second innings with a sensational first over as he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan on successive deliveries. It was a disastrous start for the visitors after centuries from Joe Root and Ben Stokes propelled England to a massive 311-run lead in their first innings on Day 4 of the 4th Test in Manchester on Saturday.

Root slammed a brilliant 150, while Stokes notched up a magnificent 141-run knock to power the hosts to a mammoth total of 669 runs in their first innings, in response to India’s first innings total of 358 runs. England’s first innings ended around 20 minutes before lunch on Day 4, forcing India to bat for around 15 minutes before the break.

It turned out to be chaos for the visitors as they lost two quick wickets in the very first over from Woakes. The England pacer removed both Jaiswal and Sudharsan in successive deliveries in the same over. Jaiswal was caught by Root at the first slip after getting squared up by a full-length delivery from Woakes. Sudharsan ended up giving a catch to Harry Brook at second slip on the next delivery after being late in leaving the ball.

It was the worst possible start for India in their second innings as England pacers once again were able to extract more seam movement compared to the Indian pacers at Old Trafford. After losing Jaiswal and Sudharsan on successive deliveries, KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill ensured India headed to lunch at 1/2 without losing another wicket in the next two overs.
