India Post Bonus – The Department of Posts has announced a bonus equivalent to 60 days of wages for eligible employees for the financial year 2025-26, offering additional financial support ahead of the festive season. According to the department’s order, the benefit covers eligible regular employees under the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) scheme, while Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and qualifying casual workers will receive bonuses under separate provisions. The amount payable will depend on the employee’s category, eligible wages and the number of days worked during the relevant period.
Which India Post Employees Qualify for the Bonus?
The bonus provisions cover three broad categories of workers: regular departmental employees, Gramin Dak Sevaks and eligible casual staff. However, the payment rules differ depending on the employee’s status and applicable eligibility conditions.
Regular employees covered by the order include Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C personnel and non-gazetted Group B employees. Eligible workers in these categories will receive a Productivity Linked Bonus calculated according to the prescribed formula.
Gramin Dak Sevaks who meet the relevant conditions will receive an ex-gratia bonus. Meanwhile, eligible full-time casual labourers, including workers with temporary status where applicable, may qualify for an ad hoc bonus.
Employees should check the conditions applicable to their category before estimating their payment, as the announcement does not mean every person working with the postal department will automatically receive the same amount.
How Is the 60-Day Bonus Calculated?
For eligible regular employees, the bonus is calculated using 60 days as the payment period. The prescribed formula multiplies the eligible average monthly wages by the number of bonus days and divides the result by 30.4.
A monthly wage ceiling of ₹7,000 applies for the calculation. This means that even if an employee’s actual monthly wages exceed ₹7,000, the bonus calculation will use the prescribed ceiling rather than the full salary. The same calculation principle applies to eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks under the stated provisions.
Using the maximum eligible monthly wage of ₹7,000, the indicative calculation is:
₹7,000 × 60 ÷ 30.4 = approximately ₹13,816.
This is an illustrative calculation based on the stated ceiling, not a guaranteed payment for every employee. The final amount may vary according to the employee’s eligibility, qualifying service and the applicable departmental rules.
Conditions for Casual Workers and Other Employees
Full-time casual workers must satisfy specific service requirements to qualify for the ad hoc bonus. According to the reported provisions, eligible workers must have completed at least three years of continuous service by March 31, 2026, while meeting the prescribed working-day conditions.
The order also addresses employees who resigned, retired, left service or moved on deputation between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Such employees may qualify under the rules applicable to regular staff, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.
These conditions are important because bonus eligibility depends on more than employment with the department alone. The employee’s category, period of service and applicable calculation rules determine whether a payment is due.
Indian Railways Employees to Receive 78-Day Bonus
The India Post announcement follows the government’s decision to approve a 78-day Productivity Linked Bonus for approximately 11.4 lakh eligible railway employees. The reported allocation for the railway bonus is ₹2,009.61 crore.
The maximum bonus for an eligible railway employee has been set at ₹17,951 for 78 days. Employees covered by the scheme include track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff and other eligible Group C personnel.
The railway bonus is an annual payment intended to reward eligible employees under the applicable productivity-linked arrangements. As with the postal department’s announcement, the actual entitlement depends on the scheme’s rules and the employee’s eligibility.
The two announcements provide separate bonus benefits for eligible workers in the postal and railway sectors. Employees should refer to their department’s official order or administrative office for confirmation of individual entitlement and payment details.
