‘I Want To Be Great Man Too’: Trump’s Quip On Canada Deal With Mark Carney Leaves Oval Office In Laughter

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and US President Donald Trump met on Tuesday (October 7) at the White House, sharing several lighthearted moments during their meeting.

In one notable instance, a Canadian reporter asked Trump a question, and his response left both the Oval Office and the internet laughing.

The moment has been widely shared across social media platforms. In the viral video, Donald Trump, while discussing with the Canadian Prime Minister, says, “I think he is a great Prime Minister. He could represent me anytime. He is a very good and strong leader. He is a nice man, but he could be very nasty sometimes.”

A Canadian reporter then asked Trump, “What’s holding things up? If he’s a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren’t you?” Trump replied in his signature style, “Because I want to be a great man TOO.”

As soon as Trump said this, the entire Oval Office, including reporters and the Canadian Prime Minister, burst into laughter.

The moment has gone viral on social media, generating varied reactions. One user critically noted, “It speaks volumes about the unconventional approach to diplomacy we’re witnessing these days, focusing on personality over pure procedural might. That kind of performance, whether intentional or not, certainly makes international relations mighty interesting to watch.” Another user wrote, “Trump’s got that Oval Office roasting the competition. Canadian reporter asks for a deal, gets served humble pie with a side of laughs. Classic!”

Trump has also lavished praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on multiple occasions, calling him a “great guy.” The US President has been quite vocal about his friendship with Modi. “I will always be friends with (PM) Modi. He is a great Prime Minister,” Trump had said, even though he slapped a steep tariff on India.

Trump’s praise for global leaders is now seen with some skepticism, as he uses the very phrase for several global leaders, evoking camaraderie; however, the same is not visible in the geopolitical relations between the countries. Notably, India and the US are yet to finalise the trade deal.

Trump, in his own maverick style, has also praised Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, calling both a “great leader.” “We have a great leader coming, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Field Marshal. Field Marshal is a very great guy, and so is the Prime Minister, both, and they’re coming, and they may be in this room right now,” Trump had said ahead of the US visit.

‘I Want To Be Great Guy TOO!’ – Trump’s Pursuit of Nobel Prize Continues

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he “deserves” the Nobel Peace Prize. Furthermore, he has also stated that he has helped “end several wars.” Just recently, he suggested he could end an eighth if Israel and Hamas accept his peace plan to resolve the nearly two-year conflict in Gaza. He said, “I ended seven wars, and in all cases, they were raging, with countless thousands of people being killed. This includes Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Congo and Rwanda – a vicious, violent war that was – Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

Trump’s claim on ending the India-Pakistan conflict has been categorically rebutted by New Delhi. India has maintained that the decision was taken bilaterally at the behest of Pakistan’s request.

One might agree or disagree with Trump’s way of handling diplomacy, and the jury is still divided as to whether that is keeping the United States in good stead, but one thing is for sure – there is never a dull moment when Donald Trump is in the house!
