Ektaa Kapoor Opens Up About The Kind Of Content ALTT Showed: ‘I Wanted To Normalise S**…’

Ektaa Kapoor, known for her popular television shows, is also a risk-taker. With numerous superhit serials like Kasamh Se, Jodha Akbar, Kundali Bhagya, Naagin, Kumkum Bhagya, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Pavitra Rishta, the daring director also launched a streaming application ALTT, earlier known as Alt Balaji.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently banned her ALTT streaming app for showcasing obscene and vulgar content.

Just days before the ban, TV queen Ektaa Kapoor talked about her streaming app and shared that she had over 100 cases on her during the time she was running the platform. In a recent interview with Faye D’Souza, Ektaa Kapoor revealed that she was apparently offending a new person every day with her work, and once, there was a march outside her home and people threw things at her house.

Ekta then defended her idea of launching the platform and said, “I feel bad girls make history and you have to be out there and some people will hate you but you have to say what you believe in. I always say that I don’t have a problem with s**, I have a lot of problems with sexual crime and I feel that people misunderstand the two things so badly that the confusion lands up in bigger crimes later.”

Ektaa Kapoor wanted to normalise s** and make people comfortable with it. Talking about her approach and thought, she explained, “So I have had like 8 girls sitting and I was like, ‘We are going to do something, we are going to launch Alt Balaji and you all are going to curate the content and you all are going to see that we are going to normalise s** for the world and we are going to be risque and we are going to wear it on our sleeves’.”

Further, Ektaa talked about the current status of the platform and said that they owned it, but were not running the entire system. Ekta said, “It’s owned by us but we don’t run it so it’s like an arm’s length thing. I don’t really look into it but now, there is a proper team.”

On the work front, Ektaa Kapoor is coming back with her all-time hit show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Reboot, featuring the lead actress Smriti Irani. The show will grace the television screens on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 pm on Star Plus.
