Nita Ambani’s Mumbai Indians may have failed to reach the IPL 2025 final this year but there is some good news for the owner after the end of the T20 league last month.
Star player from Hardik Pandya’s MI is in red-hot form in County Championships currently.We are talking about MI star batter Tilak Varma, who notched up his second hundred for Hampshire, in just his third match for the County side. Tilak hammered 112 off 256 balls with 2 sixes and 13 fours to guide Hampshire to relative safety against Nottinghamshire in their ongoing County Championship Division One match.

Batting first Nottinghamshire posted a massive 578 for 8 declared with Lyndon James scoring an unbeaten 203 off 236 balls and Jack Haynes notching up a century.

In reply, Hampshire were 367 for 6 thanks to Tilak’s brilliant century. The MI and Team India batter was particularly severe of Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Abbas, not letting him settle into any groove.

Tilak put on 42 with Nick Gubbins, 58 with Ben Brown and a crucial 126 with Felix Organ to cut short Nottinghamshire’s massive first-innings total. Hampshire still need 61 runs to avoid the follow-on but they should be safe from defeat ahead of the final day on Friday.

It was Tilak Varma’s 7th hundred in just 20 first-class matches with five fifties. He has an impressive average of 52.11. Tilak has an equally impressive record in T20I cricket for Team India, averaging 49.93 from 25 matches with 749 runs and 2 back-to-back centuries against South Africa to his name.

In County Championships so far, he has scores of 100 vs Essex, 56 and 47 vs Worcestershire before scoring 112 vs Nottinghamshire.

The young Indian batter is an integral part of the Mumbai Indians franchise over the last few years. He was retained for Rs 8 crore ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction last year.

He has scored 1499 runs in 54 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians till date. In the IPL 2025 season, Tilak scored 343 runs in 16 matches at a strike-rate of 138.3 with 2 fifties.
