Andrea Jeremiah Calls Music ‘the Single Greatest Thing About Life’, Looks Forward to Judging ‘Tamil Idol’

Singer, actress and producer Andrea Jeremiah says music remains the most meaningful part of her life as she prepares to make her debut as a judge on the upcoming singing reality show ‘Tamil Idol’.

In an exclusive interaction with IANS, Andrea said she was approaching the judging role with an open mind and was eager to discover what the show had to offer. The programme marks the Tamil-language debut of the internationally recognised ‘Indian Idol’ franchise.

“This is my first time as a judge actually. I’m coming with a very fresh, open mind. And I want to know what the show has to offer. But the reason I’m here is I’m always first and foremost a musician,” she said.

Reflecting on music’s importance in her life, Andrea described it as a constant source of strength through different phases and emotions.

“I think music is the single greatest thing about life. So, it’s kept me going. It keeps billions of people going through life, hard times, good times. You have a song for every mood. That’s the sort of life we all lead,” she said.

The singer added that identifying promising contestants and helping them develop their abilities was one of the most rewarding aspects of a music reality show.

“The music has to come from the talent. And being able to spot that talent and having a role to play in someone’s life in that way is a very special thing,” Andrea said.

She also expressed excitement about sharing the judging panel with singers Benny Dayal and Karthik, whom she described as friends. Their association, she said, would make the experience enjoyable.

“Karthik and Benny are like my buddies. So, I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun. And music is always my happy place. It’s nice to be an actress. It’s a boss vibe to be a producer. But music is my happy place,” she added.

Andrea will be joined by Benny Dayal and Karthik as the three judges on ‘Tamil Idol’, while Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will serve as the show’s super mentor.

The programme will air on Sony Vizha and SonyLIV during weekends. The season is set to feature 40 episodes, each with a runtime of 90 minutes.
