Meera Bai Jayanti 2025: When in-laws became enemies of Meera’s life, how did the devotee of Giridhar Gopal survive?

Mirabai Jayanti 2025

Meera Bai Jayanti Special: Meerabai, a great devotee of Lord Krishna, was the queen of Mewar. Most of the people believed about Meerabai, who was born in Rajasthan and died in Dwarka city, that she was very divine and remained merged in Shri Krishna. Meera Bai is also known as Saint Meera. Mirabai was a Rathore Rajput by birth and despite coming from a staunch family, she was fearless and social. His family stopped him many times from devotion to Shri Krishna but he found some way or the other for devotion.

Why did Mirabai’s in-laws become her enemies?

After the death of her husband, Mirabai devoted her time to the worship of Lord Krishna until she passed away. Even after coming to her in-laws’ house, Mirabai did not give up her devotion to Shri Krishna and due to her in-laws being engrossed in the devotion of Krishna, her family members became her enemies. After facing these sorrows and troubles in her in-laws’ house, Meera finally left Mewar and became a recluse.

Why was Meera poisoned?

Mirabai’s in-laws became her enemies because of her unwavering devotion towards Lord Krishna. Mirabai’s in-laws did not like her devotion to God and wanted to kill her, for which they also tried to kill Mirabai by poisoning her.

Who poisoned Meera?

According to the legends, Meerabai was given a cup of poison by her brother-in-law Vikramaditya (called “Rana”), but Meera drank it laughing and by the grace of Krishna, no harm came to her. According to some beliefs, Meera, being the wife of Maharana’s elder brother Bhojraj, was considered Maharana’s paternal aunt and an attempt was made to kill her by Maharana.

Mirabai’s brother-in-law Rana had sent her a cup of poison. Mirabai was so engrossed in Shri Krishna that she had full faith in her God that the poison would have no effect on her and she drank the poison laughing. Miraculously that poison became nectar, which showed Mirabai’s unwavering faith and love for Krishna. Thus, nothing happened to Mirabai even after drinking poison.

Rana again tried to kill Mirabai

When Rana came to know that nothing happened to Mirabai even after drinking poison, he was very disappointed. After this his brother-in-law Rana thought of a new solution. He got a black poisonous snake from the snake charmer and Rana got that poisonous snake kept in a decorated box by his Diwan Mahajan Vijayvargiya and sent it to Meera. Diwan Vijayvargiya reached Meera with the box. Placing that box in front of Meera, he said, “Rana has sent this box to you as a gift.”

Hearing this, Meera understood everything and she opened the box smilingly. When Mirabai opened the box, she saw a fragrant Tulsi garland kept inside it. He picked up the garland and placed it on his forehead, kissed it and wore it around his neck. This move of Rana also went in vain and wearing the garland, Meera went to Girdhar Gopal’s temple and started performing kirtan.

Mirabai’s death?

Mirabai died around 1547 AD in the Krishna temple of Dwarka, where while worshiping, she miraculously merged into the statue of Krishna.
