Bipasha Basu Begins Shooting for Untitled Series, Set to Return to Screens After Six Years

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is set to return to the screen after a six-year gap, having begun filming for an upcoming untitled streaming series alongside actors Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa.

The series is being directed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta and written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker. It is produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under the banner of Almighty Motion Pictures Productions and is slated to premiere on Prime Video. Further details about the project are awaited.

Set in a small, nondescript town on the brink of becoming the continent’s heroin capital, the series follows an incorruptible police officer, played by Sunny Kaushal, who takes on powerful forces both within and outside the system. As he struggles to protect his integrity and humanity, the story explores the challenges confronting him in a world shaped by crime and influence.

Bipasha’s return marks a new chapter in her acting career, which has largely taken a back seat in recent years as she focused on family life.

Her last full-fledged theatrical release was Alone, the 2015 horror film directed by Bhushan Patel, in which she played twin sisters Sanjana and Anjana opposite Karan Singh Grover.

Bipasha married Karan in April 2016, and the couple later appeared together in the crime thriller web series Dangerous. They welcomed their daughter, Devi, in November 2022, after which the actress largely stayed away from film projects.

Meanwhile, Mehta is also working on Gandhi, a historical series based on Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World. Planned as a three-season project, its first season focuses on Mahatma Gandhi’s early life, from his years in India and London to his transformative 23-year stay in South Africa.

Filming for the first season, covering the period from 1888 to 1915, was completed in August 2024.
