What is going to change in UPI payment?
NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has said that biometric authentication will now be applicable for UPI payment. This means that you will no longer need to enter PIN or OTP for every transaction. Your Aadhaar will approve the biometric data (face and fingerprint) payment. The feature will be live for users from Wednesday, 8 October 2025.
How will UPI’s new face payment system work?
Under the new facility, when you pay from UPI, the option of ‘Authenticate Via Face/Fingerprint’ will be available on the mobile screen. Your face ID or fingerprint will be verified from Aadhaar Database i.e. payment will be done only when your biometric data matches. This will not require typing PIN and payment will be approved in seconds from face or fingerprint i.e. transaction and will also be fast, secure and smart.
How much will the payment be made from face in UPI?
This entire process will be done through data from UIDAI (Aadhaar system). The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently allowed ‘Alternative Authentication’, after which NPCI has decided to implement it.
