A software engineer’s post about receiving a pay hike just four months after joining a new company has gone viral on Reddit, sparking admiration for the company’s work culture.
The post, shared on Reddit’s r/DevelopersIndia subreddit, was titled, “Received a hike within 4 months of joining new company.” The techie explained how they had already secured a 100% hike upon joining and were surprised to receive another salary raise shortly after.
“YOE: 7.2 | CTC: 32 LPA after the hike. Was 31 LPA before,” the Redditor wrote, adding, “It’s a mid-sized product-based company and fully remote. It’s my first produc-based comapny and when I joined, I receievd like a 100% hike. They, in fact, offered me more than I asked for.”

The engineer said they were informed about the raise unexpectedly. “It’s appraisal time at the company right now and my manager suddenly reached out and informed me I willll be receiving a hike despite not being officially eligible. I don’t know if it’s market correction or what (in this economy?), but hey, I’m not going to question it because who knows when my luck will run out.”
The post added, “I am finally feeling a bit satisfied in my career after all these years of working at SBCs. PS: Can’t reveal the company name, but it’s in the federated identity/cloud directory space.”
The Reddit thread quickly filled with reactions. Many users said the company’s approach wasn’t unheard of.
“Most decent companies do quarterly appraisals so new joiners don’t have to wait a year and a half for their first hike,” one user explained. Another said, “Good startups do this often — hikes every few months, but yes, workload is intense.”
A few users also shared similar experiences. “I joined a company that did the same — got a hike in five months even after joining with a strong package,” one person wrote.
