The controversy over the film ‘Peddi’ started when the audience and women’s rights organizations raised questions over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiamma. Criticism intensified on social media, especially regarding the romantic track and some scenes. After this, the makers had clarified that the scenes considered objectionable would be removed and now they have taken big action and removed such scenes from the film.
Director Buchi Babu Sana confirmed the removal of the controversial scene.
Director Buchi Babu Sana, while talking to Indian Express, said that some scenes were misinterpreted and proved to be confusing. He said that many people took Achiamma’s track the wrong way. According to him, this part of the story was necessary to show the contrast between Jhanvi’s character and Ram Charan’s character ‘Peddi’.
Clarification on Buchi Babu Sana’s story and creative intent
Buchi Babu Sana told that an attempt was deliberately made to show a raw and rural background in the film, so that Peddi’s transformation could be shown. He said that the aim of the story was to bring out the emotional and social changes of the characters, but some parts were presented in a wrong way. The director admitted that some shots were actually miss leading. He said, “We have taken corrective measures and removed those scenes.” According to reports, the controversial parts included Janhvi’s entry scene and a kissing scene, about which the most objections were raised.
