Chhattisgarh, rich in mineral wealth, has made significant progress in the mining sector with transparency, technological innovation and policy reforms. The state is now becoming the leading center of the country in search of critical, strategic and rare meanings.

Raipur. The state of Chhattisgarh, full of mineral wealth, has achieved remarkable achievements in the mining sector in recent years. Giving priority to transparency, accountability and technological innovation, the state government has made many major improvements in the mineral administration. As a result of these reforms, Chhattisgarh is one of the leading mining states of the country today.

In addition to major minerals like iron ore, coal, limestone, bauxite and tin ore in the state, now critical, strategic and rare meanings have also been discovered, which has further strengthened the global identity of Chhattisgarh.

Major contribution of mining in the state’s economy

The mining sector of Chhattisgarh is contributing about 10 percent to the state’s GDP (GSDP). At the same time, the state’s stake in the total mineral production of the country has reached 17 percent.

The state’s mineral revenue has recorded 34 times in the last 25 years. At the time of state formation, where this revenue was Rs 429 crore in the year 2000, in the year 2024-25, it increased to Rs 14,592 crore. This success is the result of Chhattisgarh’s strong mineral policy and sustainable administrative reforms.

Success in auction of mineral blocks

Under the amendment made in the year 2015 in the Mining and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, 60 mineral blocks have been successfully auctioned in Chhattisgarh under the Mineral Auction Rules 2015 implemented. These include:

  • 15 iron ore block
  • 14 bauxite blocks
  • 18 limestone blocks
  • 13 Critical and Strategic Mineral Blocks

Additionally, auction process of 5 new blocks (2 limestone, 1 iron ore, 1 gold and 1 base metal) has also been started.

New direction with scientific research and technical cooperation

Directorate of Geology and Minery, Chhattisgarh has signed MoUs with IIT Mumbai, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Coal India Limited for long -term cooperation in mineral research and exploration.

Through this partnership, the scientific discovery of critical and strategic minerals has gained new pace. This initiative is important towards making the state a technical mining center.

Improvement under Pradhan Mantri Mineral Area Welfare Scheme

According to the Guideline-2024 of the Pradhan Mantri Mineral Area Welfare Scheme (PMKKY), the District Mineral Institute Trust Rules, 2025 have been notified in the state. So far, a contribution of Rs 16,119 crore has been received in the state, under which 1,05,653 works have been approved and 74,454 of these works have been completed. DMF Portal 2.0 has been implemented to ensure financial approval, monitoring and transparency, which made it possible for real time monitoring and tracking of projects.

Digital Revolution in Mineral Administration: Mineral Online 2.0

The mineral online 2.0 portal developed by the Department of Minerals has given a fully digital appearance to the mineral administration of the state. This system is safe, user-friend and transparent, which increases efficiency in mining management as well as promotes the principles of Ease of Doing Business.

Now the allocation of sand mines is also being done completely through the online system. For this, the state government has signed an MoU with MSTC. The new system has made the process fair and safe by ending human intervention.

In the direction of responsible mining: Star rating system

Under the Star Ratings System implemented under the secondary mineral rule 2015, mines are being evaluated on environmental management, safety measures and standards of sustainable development. So far, 3 mines of the state have been given 5-stars and 32 mines have been given a 4-star rating. This shows that Chhattisgarh is constantly moving towards scientific and responsible mining.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai has said that “Mineral wealth is not only economic resources, but the basis of all -round development of Chhattisgarh”.
