India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in Doha on his two -day visit. On Monday, Piyush Goyal discussed measures to increase bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. During this, Piyush Goyal said that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Qatar i.e. the Free Trade Agreement can be set up between next year or by the third quarter of 2026. Both countries will benefit greatly from this agreement.
Piyush Goyal said that the talks between the two countries are moving in a very positive and creative direction. We hope that by the middle of the next year or by the third quarter, there will be a consensus on the free trade agreement between India and Qatar. Right now the round of talks between the two countries is going on. It is believed that in response to Trump Tariff, India now wants to strengthen its business with Qatar. Qatar is also strengthening relations with America and strengthening India.
Talk is also going on with these countries
The Union Minister said that India is negotiating with Peru, Chile and some other countries about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), so that Indian trade can be strengthened globally. He told that the Indian trade has to be given a new dimension, keeping this in view of this, there is a continuous talk with Qatar Peru, Chile and some other countries. This conversation will take positive form in the coming days.
14 billion dollars trade between India and Qatar
Piyush Goyal said that now there is a trade of $ 14 billion between India and Qatar and a target is to increase it to $ 30 billion by 2030. FTA’s role is very important for this. He said that with Qatar, there is a lot of potential to increase cooperation in agriculture, food products, non-traditional energy, renewable energy sources, data centers, tourism, cosmetics, pharma and artificial merit.
Expect organization like CII and FICCI
The Union Minister said that Qatar is looking for good promoters and good projects in India and I hope that our organizations like CII and FICCI will provide very good investment opportunities. Qatar is an important trading partner of India in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with bilateral trade more than US $ 14.15 billion in 2024–25.
